Ideal home exhibition: Wayne Rooney reckons crunch Old Trafford clashes can ... - Mirror.co.uk

Sir Alex Ferguson's side have four games in a row at Old Trafford as they set their sights on emulating the club's heroes of 1999 by capturing the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

United host Norwich on Saturday, Real Madrid in the decisive leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on Tuesday, Chelsea in the FA Cup quarter-finals the following Sunday, followed by Reading in the Premier League on March 16.

And Rooney reckons playing the quartet of crucial matches at home will give United a huge advantage as they try to write another remarkable chapter in the club's glittering history.

"It's always nice to play at home, so to have a few games there back-to-back is good," said Rooney. "Having that home advantage is a great help to us – that's a real difference.

"With home matches, we finish the game and I can be back at my house within 40 minutes or something like that. So that's one big help as well."

Although United must face Norwich first, all eyes are on next week's epic Champions League duel with Jose Mourinho's Madrid.

Danny Welbeck scored United's goal in their 1-1 draw in the Bernabeu a fortnight ago and hopes the header – only the second time he has found the net this season – can kick-start his season.

"It was a great feeling to get a goal at the Bernabeu, especially because of the whole occasion with all our fans travelling over and with it being such a big game," said Welbeck.

"It was probably the biggest goal I've scored, and I'd like to get more but it's more difficult to score when playing out wide.

Carrick said: "When two teams like this come together, sometimes it can be very tight and games can be won and lost on little details.

Carrick played in United's 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Barcelona in 2011 and added: "We've got something else to achieve and we'll try our utmost.

"Obviously with the final being at Wembley it's an added incentive, but we're well aware of the tie immediately in front of us."

Although van Persie has recovered, boss Sir Alex Ferguson is likely to leave his star striker out of Saturday's visit of Norwich.

He is also set to rest Rio Ferdinand, Rafael, Patrice Evra and Michael Carrick ahead of Tuesday's Champions League tie with Real Madrid.
