Middlesbrough - Chelsea Preview: Manchester United await winners in FA Cup ... - Goal.com

Up front Lukas Jutkiewicz (ankle) is a doubt for the game, and so Curtis Main is on standby to support Scott McDonald.

Meanwhile, Rafa Benitez should continue with Petr Cech in goal ahead of second-choice keeper Ross Turnbull, despite his tendency to rotate goalkeepers in the cup.

Ryan Bertrand is likely to replace Ashley Cole at left-back, though, with John Terry set to partner Branislav Ivanovic at centre-back and Cesar Azpilicueta to start at right-back.

Juan Mata is likely to be rested for the tie to give Oscar a chance whilst Fernando Torres should also return to Benitez's team.

Birmingham City line up package for Sevilla sensation Geoffrey Kondogbia - Metro

Birmingham City are considered to be preparing a raid on cash-strapped Sevilla for 20-year-old French midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia. Man United Linked With £17m Move to Sign Newcastle United Midfielder - caughtoffside

Man United are set to challenge Arsenal in the race to sign Magpies midfielder Yohan Cabaye according to Italian source TuttoMercato.

The 27 year old French international is being linked with a St James' Park exit but neither Arsene Wenger or Sir Alex Ferguson is willing to meet the former Lille man's £34m release clause but are ready to offer have that fee and will hope that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley may be tempted to sell a player who cost just £4.8m.

Ashley financed a raft of transfer additions in January and may look to balance the books in the summer and Cabaye may well be keen on moving to a side that can offer him a taste of Champions League football.

Cabaye had an excellent first season in the Premier League last term, impressing during Newcastle United's fine 3-0 win over Man United, which could in turn sparked Ferguson's interest in the cultured midfielder.

Ferguson may feel it's time to refresh a midfield that still relies on old hands Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Michael Carrick.

Prior to his move to the North-East Cabaye spent seven seasons in Lille's first team, making over 250 appearances and was a pivotal member of Rudi Garcia's Ligue 1 title winning side in 2010/11. Cabaye is now a regular member of Didier Deschamps national team set-up.

Ranking the 5 Best Managers in Arsenal FC History - Bleacher Report

Arsene Wenger is Arsenal's longest-serving and most successful manager, but the club had plenty of great leaders before him.

Success was one thing they all had in common despite their separate approaches and they all played a major part in getting Arsenal to where it is today.

After joining the club from Burnley in 1899, Bradshaw eventually led Woolwich Arsenal to promotion from the Second Division.

Allison inherited Herbert Chapman's team the summer after his death and was helped on the training ground by both Joe Shaw and Tom Whittaker.

Whittaker gets the nod into the top five because he oversaw more games with more success and didn't inherit Herbert Chapman's team.

Bertie Mee brought Arsenal their first taste of European glory with an Inter Cities Fairs Cup victory over Belgian side Anderlecht.

He also led the club to a First Division title and an FA Cup title in the same year and in doing so became the first manager to lead the club to a "Double."

The Gunners didn't challenge for silverware regularly during Mee's era, but he did bring one piece of significant silverware that no other manager has matched.

Graham led the club to two First Division titles, one FA Cup, two League Cups and one UEFA Cup Winners' Cup during his time in charge.

He signed key players such as Ian Wright and David Seaman during his time at the club and fashioned a side known for its defensive solidity.

The former Huddersfield Town manager made some great signings for players such as Charlie Buchan, Alex James and Cliff Bastin.

While continuing to hone the team's style of play, Chapman led the club to two First Division titles and one FA Cup title.

The attacking style of play is something still common in Arsenal's squad today and Chapman was influential off the pitch as well.

Some of his innovations include changing the Gunner's jersey to the red body and white sleeve so common today and influencing the introduction of Arsenal as an underground station stop (via Arsenal.com).

His longevity, his trophy haul and the implementation of the youth program as well as the club's style of play set him apart.

Wenger has led the club to seven trophies, four FA Cups and three League titles, and was extremely close to European glory on two occasions.

He also created superstars such as Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas, and oversaw the move to a new stadium.

Quick Kicks: Thoughts And Reaction From West Bromwich Albion 2-1 Sunderland - Roker Report (blog)

Sunderland slumped to their third defeat in a row at WBA thanks to a Romelu Lukaku brace. Here is what we made of it.

We didn't have a great deal of luck in and around the penalty area ourselves and we should have taken more from what Stephane Sessegnon created. He scored a great goal himself.

For the second goal Titus [Bramble] should have seen the ball out instead of playing it blindly back to the goalkeeper - the clearance has hit the player and it's in the back of the net.

That was obviously a major setback at that stage of the game, but we got back into it and still had enough chances to get an equaliser, which I think we would have deserved, without doubt.

We had a couple of good chances at the end. It's really disappointing. We came here with confidence following the Arsenal game two weeks ago.

WBA certainly had the better of open play, but Sunderland hit the post, had a very strong penalty claim turned away, and missed a couple of big chances towards the end. On the balance of chances, we probably should have taken something from the game.

We do this feature every week and we very seldom even mention the ref, let alone complain about him, but this week it is difficult to not mention him.

I have absolutely no problem if he wants to deem the ball striking Gardner's hand in the box a penalty kick. Fair enough. The handball rule is ambiguous to say the least.

But the fact remains that IF that was deemed a handball, then Adam Johnson's near-identical penalty claim just before half time has to be as well.

Personally, I suspect that he was more inclined to give the WBA one due to seeing them put the ball in the net seconds after he stopped play to award them a free kick. He was 'evening things up'. It is just about the only explanation I can fathom.

I felt a bit sorry for Titus Bramble in a sense. I certainly wouldn't want to face Romelu Lukaku on that kind of form and you'd have to doff your cap and say that the Belgian Behemoth absolutely bossed it.

It was probably fitting that the moment he broke and gifted Lukaku the second goal proved to be the decisive moment of the game because in many ways that battle was the key one.

I didn't feel sufficient sympathy for Bramble to brush it under the carpet and move on without comment, though. At the end of the day, he wasn't beaten for skill, physically overpowered, or simply outclassed. He just lost his concentration and did something stupid.

That last sentence sums up his entire career and demonstrates precisely why he cannot be relied upon and should form no part of the club's future beyond this summer.

The way they combined for Fletcher's shot that bounced off the post was probably pretty close to how Martin O'Neill envisages the partnership working, with Graham occupying defenders allowing Fletcher to get more time and space facing the goal.

Moving forward, who knows what will happen. The system may well change next week again and a new dynamic being discussed here. I won't mind that - so long as they continue to start games together.

Some of the most vehement criticisms from Saturday from fans was reserved for the wide players, particularly Adam Johnson who failed to really get into the game. I think some of it is reasonable enough. We do need more from Johnson.

That said, if the flanks are to be utilized properly then they have to be considered a partnership between wingers and full backs, and the latter just don't do enough to help.

I appreciate Colback and Gardner are not natural full backs and they are doing their best for the team, but such a simple thing as getting themselves around the outside on the overlap of their wingers just running a man away would make such a big difference.

Neither are great athletes and both are probably worried about an inability to get back should the play break down. If you want to see the difference that full backs can make though you just have to look at the difference in Sessegnon's game against Arsenal when he was switched to the left with Danny Rose behind him.

So we can criticize the wingers all we want, but the fact remains that until the full back positions are addressed, we will never see the best of them no matter who they are.

Papers: Boss to rest Robin - ManUtd.com

Van Persie hopes to face Madrid Robin van Persie will not face Norwich City at Old Trafford this weekend, but Manchester United expect the £22 million forward to overcome a hip injury before the Champions League clash with Real Madrid on March 5. Van Persie, who has scored 23 goals in 34 games for Manchester United since arriving from Arsenal last August, suffered severe bruising to his hip when he fell into a pitchside camera pit during Saturday's 2-0 victory at Queens Park Rangers. "Robin collided with a camera, which was in a dug-out piece of ground," Sir Alex Ferguson said. "He hit the base of it and has a very bruised hip." The 29-year-old was able to continue for 18 minutes before being replaced by Danny Welbeck, but despite optimism that he will be fit to face Real, Ferguson will not risk Van Persie against Norwich City. With the Dutchman receiving treatment in recent weeks, including the wearing of Kinesio tape during games, to protect a long-standing hamstring issue, the United manager had already identified the Norwich fixture as one in which Van Persie would be rested ahead of the round of 16, second leg against Real.

Rafael has described Ryan Giggs as "boring" after the Welshman scored during a 2-0 win over QPR on Saturday. The Sun quotes the Brazilian: "It is getting boring. He is an unbelievable player. Every game you see him, he works hard, scores, makes assists. He is the same in training, he just loves to play the game. He is one of the top players that I have played with. He gives us experience, confidence, and when you are feeling bad he comes and helps you, especially young players."

Elsewhere, many of today's papers include news of David Beckham's debut for PSG after the former United star came off the bench to set up Zlatan Ibrahimovic's winner against Marseille.

Liverpool FC And Tottenham Hotspur Are Interested In Dutch Defensive Couple - The Difficult Handle

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are closely monitoring Stefan de Vrij and Bruno Martins Indi of Feyenoord. Stefan p Vrij and Bruno Martins Indi have experienced meteoric growth within their reputations this season. They have been scouted by top European clubs from England and Germany in recent activities and there are always a large amount of speculations regarding their future at Feyenoord. In the recently concluded international friendly between Holland and Italy, national team mentor Louis van Gaal began the couple in the middle of the Dutch defense and everyone was impressed by them showing maturity beyond their years. De Vrij and Martins Indi is expected to turn into a permanent fixture in the national team for a long time to come. Incidentally, both the 21-year-olds were born only three days besides each other. De Vrij replaced Ron Vlaar whilst the captain of the Feyenoord part at the start of in 2010, at a very young age. The Dutchman has recently attracted involved from Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United last summer, but decided against going away from the membership through that time. But his present contract expires in 2014 and studies declare that shares for an new contract have delayed. His options will be considered by de Vrij at the end of the season. aI desire to see what is happening now. aI can focus on enjoying for the club and for Holland, but I wonat sit down with the club today about a new Acontract.a a De Vrij was offered in the press. Martins Indi on the other hand is really a flexible opponent, who is able to play both as a left-back and as a heart back a' though he prefers playing through the heart. The international plays prominently as a for Feyenoord but plays through the middle for his national area. His stature has usually seen him attract comparison with former Manchester United defender Jaap Stam. He signed a contract extension, that will hold him at De Kuip till 2016, just few days back. Recent studies from England suggest that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have joined the battle for landing the defensive pair in the summer. Liverpool are appearing concerned about the ongoing future of Sebastian Coates, who has been linked with a shift back once again to Italy with Juventus interested in signing him. Tottenham on the other hand are seeking to add detail to their team with potential of Gallas and Dawson in question. Feyenoord have apparently set a mixed cost of A25million for the Dutch duo. It'd be interesting to see if Liverpool and Tottenham are driven away by Feyenoordas large demands. But there may be no scarcity of suitors for Martins Indi and De Vrij this summer a' you can be prepared to see them at a premier European club next year.

La Liga: FC Barcelona 2-1 Sevilla FC: Fit Assessment - Barca Blaugranes (web log)

Barcelona recovered from a disappointing first-half performance to secure a comeback victory against Unai Emery's Sevilla on Saturday evening at the Camp Nou. The win, which temporarily extends BarƧa's lead at the top of La Liga to a staggering fifteen points, comes courtesy of second-half goals from David Villa and Lionel Messi; not bad for a team in crisis...

With Tuesday's Copa del Rey Clasico in mind, Jordi Roura made six changes to the side that lost 2-0 at the San Siro against AC Milan, as Javier Mascherano, Martin Montoya, Alex Song, Thiago Alcântara, David Villa and Alexis SÔnchez were all granted a place in the starting XI. Carles Puyol dropped out of the squad altogether as a precautionary measure following a nasty collision with Giampaolo Pazzini in Wednesday's defeat while the other five simply took their place on the bench. Despite the changes, Lionel Messi started in attack, with Andrés Iniesta and Gerard Piqué also starting in midfield and defense respectively. Would the Blaugrana be able to secure the three points and build up some momentum heading into an El Clasico double-header?

Unai Emery also took the chance to rotate one key member of his starting XI, as Alvaro Negredo dropped to the bench for tactical reasons with Senegalese forward Baba Diawara taking his place as the lone-front man. After watching Milan shut-up shop to great effect at the San Siro, Emery favoured a slightly more open approach. Sure, the defense was disciplined and he ensured that plenty of men were behind the ball whenever BarƧa got the ball, but there was at least some space for the Blaugrana attack to exploit. As per usual, Messi was at the forefront of Barcelona's early pressure and he created the game's first chance with a nice through ball to AndrƩs Iniesta who had found space on the left. Iniesta proceeded to skip past the sliding challenge of Coke, but in doing so he also allowed Sevilla the time to recover and block his goal-bound shot.

It took Barcelona ten minutes to register another shot – as Messi struck a free-kick into the Sevilla wall – but they were slowly but surely beginning to exert control over the game. Sevilla dropped a little deeper; gave away possession a lot more frequently and it wasn't long before Barcelona started to carve out chances. Dani Alves came close to breaking the deadlock on 21 minutes, as his long-range effort left Beto flat-footed, but his shot was deflected behind for a corner kick. Surprisingly, BarƧa created another chance from that corner as the ball was worked to Lionel Messi at the far-post, who forced a nice save from Beto with a well-struck right-footed shot. Unfortunately, we couldn't say the same of Messi's free-kicks; the Argentine failed to hit the target with even one of his three first-half free-kicks and typically, he was made to rue those misses as Sevilla took the lead just minutes before half-time.

It was a relatively simple goal to concede as well; Martin Montoya misjudged the flight of a Sevilla free-kick allowing Coke the space to deliver a cross into the heart of the Barcelona defense, where Alberto Botia capitalised on a defensive mismatch to climb above Dani Alves and head Sevilla into the lead. Maybe this was the wake-up call that the players needed; now a goal down at the Camp Nou, BarƧa appeared to up the intensity and they could have levelled the scores before the break – if only someone had taken a chance on Montoya's low cross.

Jordi Roura made a change at the interval, replacing Alexis SƔnchez with Cristian Tello and the Spaniard made an instant impact. Everyone knows that Tello has pace to burn and if the first few minutes of the second-half were anything to go by, Coke just couldn't cope, and just as Tello was forcing the issue with Coke, BarƧa began to force the issue with the rest of the Sevilla defense. Unsurprisingly, an equaliser soon followed.

Credit to Dani Alves for providing the assist with a picture-perfect cross, but what about the header from David Villa? In his first match back from illness, Villa had understandably struggled to impose himself in the first-half but he was ready to make an impact, peeling off Alberto Botia to convert from the edge of the six-yard box. It was Villa's twelfth goal of the season and a fitting reminder of the extra dimension El Guaje brings to the Barcelona attack.

Was the crisis over? Clearly Barcelona remain perfectly capable of scoring goals – despite the hysteria after Wednesday's loss – and just to hammer that point home, Lionel Messi completed the comeback on the hour-mark, slotting home from ten yards after a selfless cut-back from Cristian Tello. It was Messi's 38th La Liga goal of the season and Tello's fifth assist; whatever Roura (or Tito) said at half-time, it was working: Barcelona were back.

Emery was determined to spoil the party though, immediately responding with a substitution of his own as Alvaro Negredo replaced the ineffective Baba in attack. They obviously fancied their chances against a shaky Blaugrana defense, but Roura recognised the danger, and introduced Xavi to the fray. The idea was relatively straight-forward: Sevilla needed possession to score an equaliser and Xavi was the man who could keep that from happening; but the execution was lacking. Sevilla were still threatening and came within inches of an equaliser through substitute Alvaro Negredo, so Roura went one step further and brought Sergio Busquets on for David Villa. This necessitated a slight tactical reshuffle, but BarƧa responded to the change well and looked slightly more assured as a result. Sevilla were now finding it difficult to even win possession let alone engineer a chance at an equaliser, and thanks to some composed defending in injury-time from Mascherano, Barcelona managed to hold out for a valuable victory.

Next up, Barcelona host Real Madrid in a Copa del Rey semi-final second-leg before, yep, you guessed it, facing Los Blancos in yet another Clasico next Saturday. Until then, Visca el BarƧa!

Daytona 500 heads for thrilling finish

Jimmie Johnson leads and Danica Patrick is still in the mix after a late caution flag for debris on the track in turn two.

When the green flag came out with six laps to go, Johnson was followed by defending Cup champion Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin, Greg Biffle and Clint Bowyer. Patrick is running sixth.

Defending champ Matt Kenseth had led more laps than anyone when, suddenly, his car began smoking on lap 149. He headed to pit road and it didn't take long for the crew to push him behind the wall, ruining any hopes of becoming the first back-to-back winner since Sterling Marlin in 1994-95.

Kenseth and his new teammates at Joe Gibbs Racing, Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin, were actually running 1-2-3 when Kenseth had some sort of engine or transmission problem. Just two laps later, Busch's car also went out, smoking as well, sending the driver of the No. 18 machine storming through the garage, ripping off his racesuit.

"It's really unfortunate," Busch said. "We were running 1-2-3 and it felt like we were dropping like flies. Something inside the motor broke that's not supposed to break. It's a little devastating when you're running 1-2-3 like that. Hopefully the No. 11 (Hamlin) can bring it home."

Edwards was caught up in a crash heading into turn one at the Daytona 500, another case of simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Trevor Bayne bumped Brad Keselowski from behind, which sent the No. 21 car sliding sideways.

Stewart was 82 laps behind the leaders when he rolled out of the garage after an early crash. His frustration was never more evident than when he joined in the repair effort, banging on his No. 14 car with a hammer during the long stint in the paddock.

"To hell with the season," Stewart said. "I wanted to win the Daytona 500. We had a car that we could pass with today. We were passing cars by ourselves. I was so happy with our car, was just waiting for it to all get sorted out again. I don't know what started it, but we just got caught up in another wreck."

Stewart's misfortune came a day after he won the lower-division Nationwide race — his 19th career triumph at Daytona.

While there's nothing unusual about Kenseth leading at Daytona, where he's won two of the last three years, it's a bit jarring to see him doing it in the No. 20 car.

Kenseth had spent his entire Cup career driving the No. 17 machine for Roush Fenway Racing, but he switched to Joe Gibbs Racing this season. He's got a new car, a new number, a new sponsor and a new team.

The first woman to start from the pole at the Daytona 500 has become the first female to lead a lap in a NASCAR Cup race.

Patrick sent the huge crowd into a frenzy when she snatched the lead from Michael Waltrip on lap 90 after a series of pit stops under yellow. She led two laps before Denny Hamlin surged to the front.

But Patrick has shown her qualifying run was no fluke. She's got a strong car and has been in the top 10 all day as the 200-lap race approaches the midway point.

Patrick switched to NASCAR last year after becoming the first woman to lead laps at the Indianapolis 500, as well as being the first to win an IndyCar race.

In the strangest part of the buildup to the Daytona 500, Mr. Cent brought back memories of Joe Namath's awkward attempt to plant one on Suzy Kolber when he tried the same move with Andrews on pit road.

Former 500 winners Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart and Jamie McMurray were caught up in the crash on lap 33. So was defending Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski.

The melee began coming through the tri-oval when Kasey Kahne's car began to slide across the track after appearing to get bumped from behind by Kyle Busch.

At least two other drivers also got caught up in the mess: Juan Pablo Montoya and Casey Mears. Joey Logano made a great move to dodge the spinning cars.

HANG ON TIGHT: From one defending champion to another, Brad Keselowski had a piece of advice for Daytona 500 starter Ray Lewis:

The retired Baltimore Ravens star served as honorary starter for the Daytona 500. Lewis waved the green flag without incident Sunday to start the "Great American Race."

"Brad texted me on the way in, the one rule is, don't drop the flag," Lewis said before the race. "I'm going to squeeze the flag very hard. I want to watch this and be a part of it. To be here is an awesome experience."

Lewis was one of several stars at Daytona International Speedway. Rappers T.I. and 50 Cent attended NASCAR's season opener, which has Danica Patrick starting on the pole.

Oscar-nominated actor James Franco was the grand marshall and said, "Drivers and Danica, start your engines!" The Zac Brown Band played a pre-race concert in the Daytona International Speedway infield. Band member Clay Cook performed the national anthem.

Retired baseball pitcher Tom Gordon, comedian Drew Carey, and Wes Welker and Steve Spurrier also were in attendance.

Lewis called Keselowski on the eve of the 2012 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway and left him an inspirational voice message. Keselowski also often listens to Lewis' motivational speeches before races.

"I caught a glimpse of how he always watched my videos and it really inspired him," Lewis said. "That's when me and him really started having conversations with each other, and from there it just turned into a friendship. I send him motivational things, and heads-up on what I am doing, that's where the relationship has gone."

DANICA DROPS BACK: Danica Patrick made history by becoming the first woman to start from the pole in a NASCAR Cup race.

Choosing the outside spot on the front row, Patrick gave up the lead to Jeff Gordon on the very first lap, missing out on an early chance to become the first female to lead a Cup lap.

Patrick went on the radio before the race to thank her crew for giving her such a strong car. "I'll do the best job I can to do my end of the deal today," she said. "All in all, thank you for everything. You guys are awesome."

Later, Patrick sent the huge crowd into a frenzy when she snatched the lead from Michael Waltrip on lap 90 after a series of pit stops under yellow. She led two laps before Denny Hamlin surged to the front.

Of course, this year is different. Danica Patrick is the first woman to start from the pole in a Cup race, and Franco hinted beforehand that he was planning an audible. As unpredictable as ever, he passed on a chance to copy the command that was used when Patrick raced in the Indianapolis 500, "Lady and gentlemen, start your engines."

One day after a harrowing crash injured dozens of fans in the stands, those same seats are filling up for the Daytona 500.

"These should be good seats," said Rick Barasso, as he settled into a spot that was right in the danger zone when Kyle Larson's car slammed into the catch fencing on the final lap of a Nationwide Series race Saturday. "I mean, what are the chances of it happening again?"

That seems to be the attitude of the fans heading into the Daytona 500, the season-opening Cup race and biggest event on the NASCAR schedule. Most people say it's worth the risk to sit next to the ear-rattling action — no more than 20 feet away for those in the first row. They love to hear the engines, smell the exhaust, and feel the wind whipping in their face as 43 cars go by at nearly 200 mph.

Raymond Gober returned to the same location where he was nearly struck by a bolt from Larson's car. He scooped up the debris as a souvenir, though he acknowledged being a little nervous about his seat on the back row of the lower level. He even considered wearing his motorcycle helmet to the 500, but figured "everybody would start laughing at me." Next year, he plans to buy an upper-level seat in the main grandstand.

There are grim reminders of what happened Saturday: a bloody spot that had been washed down (not entirely, though), a tire mark on a seat, another seat that was partially bent from getting struck by that same tire.

France's Pinturault wins World Cup large slalom

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP) a Alexis Pinturault of France used a bold second run to win some Sort Of Cup giant slalom Sunday as his nearest German contenders faltered. Pinturault was 2nd following the first heat, behind hometown favorite Felix Neureuther and before Fritz Dopfer. But Dopfer crashed out in the 2nd work and Neureuther made a blunder that lowered him right down to 12th in the position. Germany was seeking its first men's massive slalom success in 40 years. World Cup leader Marcel Hirscher of Austria and world champion Ted Ligety of the Usa profited from the Germans' mistakes to take second and third, respectively. Pinturault clocked a time of 2 minutes, 32.42 seconds for his second win of the season and his first large slalom victory. "I have good memories from Garmisch, I also won the senior giant slalom concept in 2009," mentioned Pinturault, who now has three career World Cup wins. Hirscher changed a stomach disease to give his over all World Cup cause. He was 0.60 moments behind the champion and Ligety was 0.63 back. Ligety, the GS consultant who also won two other gold medals at the worlds in Schladming, Austria that concluded seven days before, was fifth after an error-filled first work. The American also made a blunder in the next heat, losing his point at the same place where Neureuther nearly went off the course. Ligety had won four of the last five huge slaloms this season and could have set an archive with fifth. His next area was his worst end in the event in 2010. "Third place is not what you would like to be getting at this stage, but I will take it," Ligety said. "In the very first function I recently made a huge amount of small errors. In the second I was happy to not get into too much soft snow because change. You've to just take risks." Hirscher, who was silver medalist at the sides behind Ligety, now features a 209-point lead general over Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway, who finished sixth.

Man City compared to Chelsea: Key struggles, history and numbers|Firstpost

Does anybody care? Yes. Itas the English Premier League, and the league leaders may be clear at the top of the dining table by 12 points, but supporters still care. Individuals who follow the league still care and in a league where such a thing can happen, Manchester City vs Chelsea will always be one of the biggest games. Then of course, thereas the curious managerial circumstances a' Roberto Mancini proclaiming he is the abest director in Englanda and Rafael Benitez wanting to Ateach Fernando Torres how to stop a ball in to the back of the net. The match kicks-off at 7 PM on Sunday. HISTORY Area have just started off on what seems set to be a trophy-laden future. Despite any reasons, money can buy them a trophy now and again a and the Abu Dhabi based owners arenat going anywhere too early. Times have been clashed 137 by the two teams altogether, with Chelsea earning 55 of those games. There were 37 draws. Letas win some games, children! Getty Images Chelsea, while travelling to the Sky Bluesa home, have won 21 of 68 matches. Itas going to be pretty tight too. Chelsea have scored typically 1.42 goals per match, in comparison to Cityas 1.26 goals per match. So if anybody tries to douse the pleasure of seeing two oil-powered groups battle, inform them the above facts and enjoy beauty. KIND In the Premier League, Manchester City have did not win their last three games. This has take them from title-contenders to complete outsiders. Chelsea never made a legible challenge since the start a'with the firing of supervisors and all that regular exercise at the Bridge. However, their EPL form as below. City: W-W-L-W-W-W-W-D-D-L Chelsea: W-W-W-L-W-D-W-D-L-W Obvious thing is, if City eliminate this match, they can prepare to deliver a of wine and some plants to Alex Ferguson come the end of the season. KEY Fights Yaya Toure vs Frank Lampard:AYayaas hasnat reached the heights of last time, but heas still a formidable power to manage. But judging by Lampardas new type a' and his purpose to prove the contract-givers at Chelsea wrong a' we will give this challenge to the 34-year-old midfield genius (who has won in his last four EPL activities). Pablo Zabaleta compared to Eden Hazard:AOne thing Zabaleta provides to City is consistency. He can be asked to accomplish an activity, and he often does it well. But his forays forward may need to be restricted, with Hazard a consistent flying danger cutting in from the left. Gareth Barry vs Juan Mata/Oscar:AOscar starts through the middle but enjoys a run using the proper side. Mata starts on the right but is normally the creative epicenter for Chelsea. And breaking each one of these plays is Barry. He has held it's place in reasonable sort recently but Chelseaas attacking trio could be too difficult to stop at times and the support will be needed all by Barry. We feel an interchanging Chelsea must gain it in midfield. Sergio Aguero vs Branislav Ivanovic:AItas Agueroas pace vs Ivanovicas energy a' so thereas very little to choose from. Often the Argentine will get the higher of the Serb and itas how much he makes of the moment. Ivanovic has been very consistent for Chelsea and must see off aerial risks, but must be familiar with the zippy striker. Brian Silva versus Ramires:ASilvaas most readily useful has to come early in the game for him with an influence a' when you canat assume Ramires to tire out at the conclusion of the game. He will keep going and going. While Silva hasnat quite impressed with goal-scoring in 2010, his passing may be the major danger. DID YOU KNOW? - The EPLas most readily useful defences will collide. Town have admitted all time to 24 objectives, while the Blues have let in 28. -AChelsea won 10 of the first 12 EPL away activities against City but have lost the last three in a line. -AFrank Lampard is planning to score in five straight Premier League appearances for only the 3rd time after 2005 and 2010. Goals were scored 11 by heahas in his 13 Premier League starts -AChelsea have been awarded more fines than any side this season (8) while City have been awarded 14 because the start of last season, only Manchester United have been awarded more.

Dozens hurt after crash debris hits Daytona stands

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — With the start of the Daytona 500 just hours away, NASCAR officials still have some cleaning up to do amid growing questions about fan safety.

The season opener will go off as planned Sunday less than 24 hours after at least 33 people were injured when a car flew into the fence during a NASCAR race at Daytona International Speedway, sending a tire and large pieces of debris sailing into the stands.

The final-lap accident Saturday marred the second-tier Nationwide Series race on the eve of a spectacle often called the Super Bowl of motorsports. Late into the night, track workers were scrambling to repair a huge section of fence that separates fans from the high-speed track.

Speedway President Joie Chitwood III has a news conference scheduled for Sunday morning to give the latest update on repairs and any safety changes that could be made before the "Great American Race."

The 12-car crash began about 200 feet from the start-finish line as the front-runners approached the checkered flag. Leader Regan Smith attempted to block Brad Keselowski for the win, triggering a horrific pileup that could have been much worse.

The front end of Larson's No. 32 car was sheared off, and his burning engine wedged through a gaping hole in the fence. Parts and pieces of his car sprayed into the stands, including a tire that cleared the top of the fence and landed midway up the spectator section closest to the track.

The 20-year-old Larson stood in shock a few feet from his car as fans in the stands waved frantically for help. Smoke from the burning engine briefly clouded the area, and emergency vehicles descended on the scene.

Ambulance sirens could be heard wailing behind the grandstands at a time the race winner would typically be doing celebratory burnouts.

"It was freaky. When I looked to my right, the accident happened," Rick Harpster of Orange Park said. "I looked over and I saw a tire fly straight over the fence into the stands, but after that I didn't see anything else. That was the worst thing I have seen, seeing that tire fly into the stands. I knew it was going to be severe."

Shannan Devine of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., was sitting about 250 feet from where the car smashed into the fence and could see plumes of smoke directly in front of her.

"I didn't know if there was a car on top of people. I didn't know what to think," she said. "I'm an emotional person and I immediately started to cry. It was very scary. Absolutely scary. I love the speed of the sport. But it's so dangerous."

Chitwood said 14 fans were treated on site and 14 others were taken to hospitals. Local officials said 19 people were taken to neighboring hospitals, including two who were in critical but stable condition.

Stewart, who won for the 19th time at Daytona and seventh time in the last nine season-opening Nationwide races, was in no mood to celebrate.

"The important thing is what is going on on the frontstretch right now," said Stewart, a three-time NASCAR champion. "We've always known, and since racing started, this is a dangerous sport. But it's hard. We assume that risk, but it's hard when the fans get caught up in it.

"So as much as we want to celebrate right now and as much as this is a big deal to us, I'm more worried about the drivers and the fans that are in the stands right now because that was ... I could see it all in my mirror, and it didn't look good from where I was at."

It was a chaotic finish to a race that was stopped for nearly 20 minutes five laps from the finish by a 13-car accident that sent driver Michael Annett to a hospital. His Richard Petty Motorsports team said he would be held overnight with bruising to his chest.

The race resumed with three laps to go, and the final accident occurred with Smith trying to hold off Keselowski through the final turn.

"It's Daytona. You want to go for the win here," Smith said. "I don't know how you can play it any different, other than concede second place, and I wasn't willing to do that today. Our job is to put them in position to win, and it was, and it didn't work out."

As the cars began wrecking all around Smith and Keselowski, Stewart slid through for the win, but Larson plowed into Keselowski and his car was sent airborne into the fence. When Larson's car came to a stop, it was missing its entire front end. Larson, who made his Daytona debut this week, stood with his hands on his hips before finally making the mandatory trip to the care center.

It appeared fans were lined up along the fence when Larson's car got airborne. But Chitwood said there was a buffer, adding there would be no changes to the seating before the Daytona 500.

"We don't anticipate moving any of our fans," Chitwood said. "We had our safety protocols in place. Our security maintained a buffer that separates the fans from the fencing area. With the fencing being prepared tonight to our safety protocols, we expect to go racing tomorrow with no changes."

"I think until we know exactly the statuses of everyone involved, it's hard to lock yourself into the 500," Keselowski said. "Hopefully, we'll know soon and hopefully everyone's OK. And if that's the case, we'll staring focusing on Sunday."

Yaya Toure: I wish to remain at Man City forever|The Sun|Sport|Football

The Ivory Coast midfielder, 29, has experienced a nomadic career a' never staying a lot more than 36 months at any club, not even Barcelona. But he now seems ready to pay some roots after arriving at the Etihad in summer 2010 and he would like to promise the rest of his profession to City. Toure feels his game is perfectly suited to Premier League football and feels chef Roberto Mancini has worked out the simplest way to make use of him. He really has couple of years left on his offer at City but said: aI wish to give all to the team for quite a while. Itas very strange because all my career Iave been with clubs for just two or 36 months. aNormally I change clubs after a couple of decades but itas different here. I do want to remain longer. aSometimes youare not happy with anything or you donat feel comfortable in the town and you need alter a but not here. aOf program Iad prefer to finish my career here. For three years it's been pleasant to be with guys who love you, guys who worry about you.a Toure won a Champions League honor at the Nou Camp but was broadly speaking used as a defensive midfielder or perhaps a centre-back. Nevertheless at City he has become known as a scorer of essential objectives a' such as for instance the FA Cup final winner in 2011 and his vital increase at Newcastle in the penultimate game of last year. Yaya feels the change is down to Mancini and said: aThe I have been here known by manager for quite a while. aHe knew me when I played for Monaco against his Inter group. It had been he who made a decision to set me more forward. Since visiting City my football has been enjoyed by me more since my game is focused on assault and what I did at Barcelona was very different. aIn England the baseball is about power, strong running and fixing. The fans are lovely.a and I feel such as this is home for me personally And Toure isn't convinced the brand of football observed in the Nou Camp would work in England. He said: aI donat think therefore because in Spain the baseball is significantly diffent. More quality, more technical. aIn England, the pace amount is quite high, more than in Spain. aYou donat have the same time frame to control the ball and choose a team-mate. You have to be fast, normally some body like Kyle Walker will take you in the rear! The speed is fantastic.a Cityas concept support fell apart while Toure was at the African Nations Cup a' they are 15 points behind leaders Manchester United going into todayas Chelsea clash. And he admits it was hard watching his team from afar. He said: aWhen your friends need you and you are absent itas usually harder. aYou wish to be together. Itas usually difficult a Iam African and the competition makes us leave for one month. aYour team have to perform hard games. Sometimes personally I think miserable. aWhen I was absent we didnat get because every three days we have to perform the right results and January is definitely difficult. aBut itas section of basketball a' we can do nothing about it.a The PUMA King FG football boot is worn by yaya Toure. Manchester City v Chelsea FC - The Gooners Guide

The reigning champions' defence of their Premier League title has faded in recent weeks and a run of three games without a win has seen City now has an outside chance of retaining their title. Roberto Mancini was extremely critical of his players after the 3-1 defeat at Southampton in their last league game and he was glad that they bounced back in the 4-0 victory over Leeds United in the FA Cup last weekend to maintain an impressive home record.

So far this season only Manchester United have won at the Etihad stadium and City have won the last three home games against Chelsea ahead of this encounter. However, Chelsea had won nine of their previous 10 visits to City and another victory on Sunday would see Rafa Benitez's side move to within a point of City in second place.

Chelsea also have the second best away record in the Premiership this season and Benitez will be hoping to build on reaching the fifth round of the FA Cup and last 16 of the Europa League in the past week to inspire them to a good result here today. Benitez knows it is virtually impossible to win the title now but overhauling City for second is within reach and he would want his side to come away with all three points here.

For the record, Manchester City have not failed to win four games in a row since November 2009 when they drew seven in a row, a run that led to Mark Hughes being dismissed as manager.

Carlos Tevez featured against Leeds after missing the Southampton defeat on compassionate grounds and he should start again alongside Sergio Aguero in attack.

ChelseaTeam News :Chelsea will bring Frank Lampard and Branislav Ivanovic back into the team after the duo were rested for the Europa League draw against Sparta Prague which sealed their progress further into the competition.

Ashley Cole will also be restored to the starting line-up, while Rafa Benitez must decide which two of Gary Cahill, David Luiz and John Terry will feature at centre half. Demba Ba is available again after being cup-tied for the 1-1 draw against Sparta on Thursday and he is pushing to replace Fernando Torres in attack.

Seattle Womens Soccer Round-up - Sounder At Heart

It was a busy week in the world of Seattle's women's soccer programs as Michelle French is moving on, coaches were hired and Hope Solo found out she needs surgery.

We now know where Michelle French will be coaching this season, and it isn't for the Seattle Sounders Women. She has been tapped to become the first full-time US U-20 WNT coach. It will be her job to mold the future full team members, while also working with the U-17 and U-18 teams to recognize and develop the next Alex Morgan's and Sydney Leroux's.

Her first major challenge will be qualifying for the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. That event will be held in Canada as a precursor to the next FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada in 2015. Her first qualifying competition will be in early March in La Manga, Spain, where the USA will face Norway, Germany and Sweden. I think that the future looks bright indeed with Frenchie at the helm. She has a knack of developing a player's strengths and understands what young players will need in order to succeed on the senior USWNT.

To be a part of the Seattle Sounders Women's Organization this past summer was an experience that I am extremely grateful for and will always cherish. From the first day that I signed on as head coach last season, it was clear that through the dedication of ownership, staff, and players, something big was about to happen. Not only did the team become comprised of notable USWNT players like Hope Solo and Alex Morgan, we also had many local and national collegiate stars that created the most memorable women's soccer season in Seattle. The intimate game day experience at Starfire Stadium was unlike any other environment we saw during the season. As a result of the commitment of our owners Cliff McElroy and Lane Smith, coupled with the outstanding Sounders Women's staff, the product presented on and off the field was top notch. From live webcasts and broadcasts on the road by Jon Billings, to excellent USL coverage, the season proved to be professional in every sense of the word. Lastly, the remarkable record-setting Northwest fans made the season one that I know many players, as well as myself, will never forget.

At this point in my coaching career, I've decided not to return as the Seattle Sounders Women's head coach, in order to remain committed and dedicated to the development of youth soccer through my other coaching commitments. I will continue to follow the development of the team and am extremely excited to watch and support them this upcoming season. I sincerely appreciate all of the support from ownership and look forward to continuing to be a fan of the organization. The Seattle Sounders Women's past season proved what an incredibly electric and exciting atmosphere can be created in Seattle, and I have no doubt the Sounders Women will continue to be at the forefront of the development of women's soccer in the Northwest.

With that announcement came the obvious vacancy at the Seattle Sounders Women for a head coach. Which has now been filled. SSW announced the hiring of Hubert Busby Jr. as the club's new Head Coach and General Manager.

Per the teams statement, "Busby brings over 13 years of coaching some of the highest levels of women's soccer in North America. His resume features contributions to every woman's professional league in the United States (WPS, W-League and WPSL Elite) over the last decade. Most recently he has been involved with the Western New York Flash (NWSL), and the Vancouver Whitecaps Women. He has also served as a National Training Center coach in Canada."

He will be working closely with Technical Director, Lesle Gallimore to recruit players and grow the Sounders Women brand in the community. With Gallimore's contacts through her long, continuing career as the Head Coach for the UW Women's team, and his experience as both player and coach at all level's, the SSW should be able to field another outstanding team.

"We're thrilled to add Hubert to our staff. His professionalism and enthusiasm for the job has bread success everywhere he's been," said Executive Director, Jon Billings. "Between Hubert and Lesle Gallimore, we have an incredible amount of coaching acumen, management experience, and player recruiting networks to lead our team."

The Seattle Reign FC were also busy behind the scenes filling out their staff. The Reign have named Sam Laity as the top assistant coach. Coach Laity is a native of Plymouth, England, but has called the Seattle area home since 2001. Per the Reign's press release, he has been "coaching and serving as director of the junior academy for Pacific Northwest Soccer Club in Tukwila, Wash. He previously coached locally with Dos FC, Westsound FC and Pacific Premier while also serving as regional staff instructor for the NSCAA."

"I'm thrilled and excited to be working with Laura Harvey and Seattle Reign FC," said Laity. "Seattle fans deserve the very best, and I'm looking forward to being part of a club that sets the standard on and off the field, in the NWSL and beyond."

The Reign have been dealt another potential roster blow with the announced injury to keeper Hope Solo. She has been playing with a ligament injury in her left wrist. With the Algarve Cup being the only major competition for the USWNT this summer, the training staff has suggested that now is the time to have the injury addressed. According to the Reign's Facebook page, "surgery on her wrist is being planned for next week. Recovery time has been initially estimated at 6-8 weeks, so with a bit of luck we'll have Hope back near the start of the season." Solo has proven that she can come back from injuries, and I'm sure she'll be back quickly.

Roughneck Scarves has announced that they will be providing the scarves for the Reign this season. This ought to get you a little more excited. They, and T-shirts, should be available in mid-March. For ticket information please visit SeattleReinFC.com.
