Arsenal, Tottenham and Fulham's stadiums are among the easiest in the country for fans to get to, according to a new study.

Campaign for Better Transport and the Football Supporters' Federation (FSF) identified the clubs after spending the season examining fans' travel habits.

The report, Door to Turnstile – Improving travel choices for football fans, looked at a number of factors over the 2012/13 season for Premier League clubs, including how easy top flight grounds are to access, transport choice fans have in how they get to games, and what steps clubs should take to make transport easier.

Arsenal were praised for cutting car trips to and from the Emirates Stadium and contributing to tube station improvements. Fulham's work to promote walking and cycling around Craven Cottage was also held up as an example, and Spurs were commended for their work on supporting new train and bus services for fans wanting to get to White Hart Lane.

Other London clubs did not fare as well, with QPR coming 19th out of 20 clubs for not having a coherent travel plan and offering poor information to fans on how to get to Loftus Road.

Campaign for Better Transport's Sian Berry, co-author of the research, said: "The quality and extent of public transport in the capital gave London teams a natural advantage in our research.

"But Arsenal, Spurs and Fulham deserve congratulation for building on this, giving fans plenty of choices in how they get to the ground and promoting alternatives to driving."

Newcastle United came top, praised for being 'transport champions' with initiatives including season-long matchday public transport for £10.

She continued: "Our research shows that after match tickets, transport is the biggest cost that fans face. Any club worth its salt should be working hard to lessen that blow.

"While the likes of Newcastle and Arsenal are doing exactly that, fans of teams including Manchester United are often condemned to a weekly pattern of expensive parking and endless traffic jams."

"It's far easier to commit to that level of support if public transport to games is accessible and affordable. The FSF would like to see clubs and transport authorities working together to offer fans genuine travel options.

"Many fans prefer to leave their cars at home and enjoy the day without hassle. Making match day travel more convenient, pleasant and affordable would benefit everyone involved in football, and we hope to see these ideas employed more widely in future."

The research was based on a fan survey, supporter club views and assessments travel information and travel planning for each club.

2012-13 EPL Awards Winners Revealed: The Best of the Premier League Season

Voting for the best of the 2012-13 Premier League season has closed, and the winners of the 5th EPL Awards can now be revealed.

In one of the most competitive awards since its creation in 2009, more than 36,000 votes were cast by soccer fans worldwide in the awards to recognize the best that the Premier League has to offer including everything from blogs, footballers, books and video networks to podcasts, commentators, forums and more.

The soccer fans have spoken! Here are the winners of the 2012-13 EPL Awards — both Readers' Choice Awards and Editor's Choice Awards:

There have been so many worthy candidates between the goal posts this season that it was difficult to pick out a winner. You, the readers, gave the nod to Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, who was a worthy winner based on a dodgy start earlier this season. However, he turned his season around in triumphant fashion.

The Editor's Choice Award went to Sunderland and Belgium goalkeeper Simon Mignolet who was one of the main reasons why the Black Cats were able to stay up this season. Aston Villa's Brad Guzan was a close runner-up.

It was one of those bizarre seasons in the Premier League, especially in the first half, where there were so many defensive lapses by teams throughout the table. As the season went on, defenses solidified themselves, but there were still some players who rose to the top. In the Readers' Choice category, Leighton Baines won first place for his brilliant performances for Everton down the left wing (and his many exquisite goals from free kicks). Baines also received the Editor's Choice Award.

Gareth Bale had one of the best seasons for any British footballer in the Premier League in recent memory. The only catch was whether to put him in the midfield or striker category since he played in and out of both throughout the season. We decided to place him in the midfield category, where he was up against some brilliant competition. In any other year, Juan Mata, Marouane Fellaini or Santi Cazorla would have had a fighting chance to win the top honors.

While it was easier to select a winner from the midfield and defender categories in this year's award, the question of who the best striker was during the season was much tougher to answer. You, the readers, voted Robin van Persie as the best – by some margin. But while Michu and Christian Benteke were worthy contenders, the Editor's Choice Award goes to Luis Suarez despite his horrible incident against Branislav Ivanovic. Suarez's performances on the pitch transformed this Liverpool side this summer, throughout the entire year until his suspension.

After Manchester United lost the title last season on the final day, we all knew that United would be more committed than ever to try to regain the title. What we didn't expect was the level of consistency across the entire season where Ferguson was able to keep his team firing on all cylinders despite injury problems and plenty of rotation.

Based on his herculean performances throughout the entire season, there can be only one Player of the Year — Gareth Bale.

As we've seen this season, there's a massive difference between an average commentator and one of the world's best who has been working his craft for decades. Therefore, it's great to see that the Readers' Choice Award has gone to Ian Darke of ESPN, who will no longer be commentating Premier League matches for ESPN due to the TV network losing the rights. It's a worthy achievement by Darke for his hard work throughout the season. While growing older but wiser, the nod for the Editor's Choice Award goes to Martin Tyler, who is still at the top of his game. We never grow tired listening to him, and it's always a pleasure to hear his voice.

Gary Neville has taken his role as co-commentator to new heights this season, which has been accentuated by his performances on Monday Night Football on Sky Sports. While Neville picks up the Readers' Choice Award, Stewart Robson gets the note for Editor's Choice Award winner due to his no-holds-barred opinion and analysis during Premier League matches.

Nick Geber's World Soccer Radio show on Sports Byline is the worthy recipient of this year's Readers' Choice Award for Best Radio Show. The daily show features opinion and discussion about the world's game. Coming out of the PGA Show, I knew that UST was really going all-in on their Recoil iron shaft.  But in spite of all of the tech talk and marketing, I couldn't shake my doubts about better players actually switching to graphite iron shafts.  Then, as winter started to break and people headed to the course, I started seeing more and more posts about players gaming the Recoil.  Is a true sea change underway?  Are we headed towards a day when players will carry 14 graphite shafts in their bag?

:: The Recoil Prototype is designed for better players looking for great feel and the ability to work the ball.  It has a lower balance and higher flex point.  It comes in heavier weights (90-125 grams) with a firmer tip for lower ball flight.

:: The Recoil 800 Series is for players looking for a lighter weight option (50-94 grams).  It features optimum weight and flex profiles to fit a wide range of golfers.  A mid-balance, medium tip creates a medium ball flight.

:: The Recoil 600 Series offers great feel and lightweight options (68-84 grams) to increase club head speed for greater distance.  This line favors a medium to medium high ball flight.

Prices for the Recoil line vary widely.  The Recoil Prototype has an MSRP of $135.  The Recoil 800 Series is $92, and the Recoil 600 Series is $53.

The Recoil Prototype and 800 Series are only available through UST TOURSPX dealers, but the 600 Series is available through all UST dealers.

In terms of looks, UST took a safe middle road with the Recoil.  From afar, no one would guess that these are graphite: they have a shiny silver look that is close enough to steel to fool the casual observer.  They do have more branding than your typical steel shaft, but nothing gaudy; a nice clean white and silver graphic that can easily be hidden at address.

When you pick up the Recoil Prototype 125, there's nothing about the feel that says "graphite."  It has plenty of heft and a nice even balance.  During the swing, there's a very minimal amount of load and kick; it's a small but noticeable change from a Dynamic Gold.  It's at impact that you really sense the difference.  Mishits have none of the sting and shock associated that you normally associate with missing the center of the club face.  Centered hits feel even cleaner than normal, almost as if there was no impact at all.

For the Performance testing, I installed the UST Recoil Prototype 125 shafts into a set of Wilson FG Tour V2 heads.  They were tested against a set of Dynamic Gold S300 shafts that were installed in the exact same heads.  Testing was done on a FlightScope X2 launch monitor.  All shafts were gripped with PURE Grips.

The 2 biggest differences between the Recoil and Dynamic Gold, for me, were the peak height of my shots and the spin rates.  With the Recoil, my shots were peaking an average of 10 feet higher than they were with Dynamic Gold.  Interestingly, the spin rates with Recoil were higher with my long iron (compared to Dynamic Gold) and lower with the short irons.  This combination of higher flight with better spin rates led to the distance gains that I saw.

When it comes to accuracy, Recoil and Dynamic Gold were essentially equal in dispersion.  The FlightScope graphic shows a large numerical advantage for the Dynamic Gold in the 4 irons, but, looking at the shot pattern, my eye test disagrees.

All in all, I think that switching to the Recoil Prototype 125 would be a fairly easy transition for anyone playing any of the heavy weight steel shafts.  When you consider that there are 19 different Recoil models, there's probably one that would make for an easy transition, or, perhaps, a marked improvement, for almost any player.  If you're getting fit for new irons this season, do what an increasing number of players are doing, and see if your game wouldn't be improved with UST's Recoil iron shafts.

The most common criticisms against Colston as an elite receiver are as such, and actually are related: Drew Brees' consistently prolific, pass-happy offense inflates Colston's statistics and his comparatively lower single-season receiving yard career high of 1,202.

However, New Orleans' offense is mainly predicated on distributing the football to a wide range of receivers, tight ends and running backs.

While Colston definitely gets his fair share of targets every game and every season, he's not targeted nearly as much as some of the more prominent receiving names.

He saw 144 targets in 2007, the most of his career, which is considerably lower than most of the aforementioned top wideouts.

Colston simply hasn't had the football thrown in his direction as often, which could be part of the reason why his single-season receiving yard career high is lower than most of the household names at his position.

Also, Colston has been dubbed as more of a chain-moving, possession receiver than a downfield threat during his time with the Saints, something that may have given the impression that he was a boring, underneath receiver incapable of making big plays.

Obviously, Colston hasn't been as vertically dangerous as some of his wide receiver mates, but the notion that he can't or doesn't stretch the field is probably overblown, right?

Heck, with the crowd of tremendous receivers in the NFC, there's a legitimate chance he never makes a Pro Bowl and is never a member of the All-Pro team.

But with years of sustained high-level production and not nearly as much to show for it as his wideout cohorts, it's easy to see that Marques Colston is the most underrated receiver in the NFL.
