Entering the draw up, Green Bay was watching DuJuan Harris as the team's starting running again. Harris played well late inside 2012 season, but the jury is (and perhaps still is) out as to whether or not he can be this long-term answer.
So Thompson made a move—check that, made MOVES—to immediately shore up the running back position. Don't just were the Packers allowed to get Eddie Lacy from Alabama inside the second round, a player many thought they might have taken in the pioneer, but Thompson was also in a position to scoop up Johnathan Franklin from UCLA in the fourth.
This should be the most fun battle to enjoy in training camp. Harris played well late a year ago, but the selection from two running backs shows he will have a challenge realizing the starting job. Judging by the order they have been selected, it wouldn't be surprising to find Lacy start with Franklin for the backup/change-of-pace back. Harris is most probably to be on this bench, except in confident formations.
If Lacy's health issues return in camp, then Franklin will be the starter. He's better inside the screen game than Lacy, which will come in handy for Aaron Rodgers. It's nice to have another weapon inside screen game aside out of Randall Cobb.
James Starks is to the hot seat with the arrival of Lacy in addition to Franklin. John Kuhn should return being the starting fullback.
