PETER Coates took a rare day at Stoke's education ground this week to make sure manager and people they still had his full support. The Town chairman isn't any Roman Abramovich as it pertains to owners poking their nose in to a playing squad's daily matters. And he has never scribbled down 11 names for the director to 'consider' ahead of a large sport like Sunday's visit of champions-in-waiting Manchester United (2.05pm). But he was keen to show his face this week to throw the proverbial consoling arm across the first-team party in the wake of last Saturday's psychologically-damaging 3-1 home defeat by Aston Villa. myprint-247 Printing voucher Our heavyweight cards have FREE UV silk coating, FREE next day delivery & VAT included. "Peter bands me four to five times a week," said Pulis. "He said he'd want to place down for some lunch basically thought it was okay. I said 'blimey, it is your football club .' "He wanted to have a talk with the lads and show a togetherness with the group. "That could be the kind of person he is. He is such a great person. He's been in football quite a while and seen all the ups and downs of the team. "I think the partnership we've has been built up over an extended period. We have got stronger together, but I realize when you do not get results in this work you are planning to be under pressure." He doesn't feel Coates is really a trigger-happy chairman more likely to make the type of change seen at Sunderland a 14 days ago, or at Sheffield United barely two days ago. "Danny Wilson got the bag at Sheffield. If he won the two activities at your fingertips he'd maintain the automatic promotion places," Pulis lamented. "It is a special situation with Peter in several respects and it places more pressure on me while he is a friend, not only a chairman paying my wages." Not that Pulis has fallen to the trap, he insists, of thinking he has the proverbial job for life. "Everybody round the club, including the fans, expect one to perform and rightly so." He also denies he's leaning on past achievements alone to guide him through the present crisis. "Maybe if we had completed three of the last four periods needing to gain in the last game to keep up, then targets today wouldn't be therefore great," he reasoned. "But I am not absurd. I realize the nature of the entire world, of professional baseball and society. "You get no grace for what you did. They react to what you are doing and what we are doing isn't what we've been used to throughout the last seven years." Asked if the criticism was beginning to hurt, he quipped: "No, I had it when I returned. It is very typical for me".
