West Brom fan angry over season ticket move - expressandstar.com

An avid West Bromwich Albion fan feels he is being kicked out of the stand he has sat in for the last 15 years, because he has reached his 60th birthday.

Season ticket holder Robert Young said he is disgusted that he cannot buy a concession season ticket for the West Stand.

If he wants to buy a the concession ticket which is around £120 cheaper that the standard ticket, he will have to move stands, despite there being dozens of empty seats around him at every game.

Mr Young who is also a club shareholder celebrated his 60th birthday last month, and was looking forward to benefitting from a cheaper season ticket price.

However, avid fan who attends nearly every game was left fuming when he discovered he could not buy the cheaper ticket for the West Stand and the seat he has sat in for the last 15 seasons.

Mr Young of Bristnall Hall Road in Warley said: "I am Albion through and through, and supported the club my whole life, and I just feel like I am being let down by them. I don't blame the club, I just blame the people who run the club.

Every game there around 40 to 50 seats empty in my section of the stand, so there is no reason that they cannot give me and others like me the concessionary prices."

The retired Rhodia worker added: "I am going to fight this, and stage a protest at the game against Newcastle on Saturday. I am not the only one who is being impacted by this. There are a number of people who sit near me who are approaching their 60th birthday. It is just an unfair policy"

Mr Young said he feels the club is "divorcing" the fans, and this is not the only change which has impacted on them.

Recently the shareholders meetings are being held at 9am in London, so many shareholders who live in the Black Country find they cannot attend.

Mr Young who is also a member of the West Bromwich Albion supporters club said he feels that bosses at the club are preventing first team players from coming along to their forum meetings.

Mr Young said: "In the past we would usually have a couple of first team players come along, and they are usually really good nights. But in recent months it appears the bosses have been preventing them from coming. We feel like they are divorcing the fans."

Club spokesman John Simpson said: "We introduced a policy that meant concessionary season ticket prices in the West Stand would only be available to supporters renewing existing concessionary season tickets after conducting extensive refurbishment work of the West Stand in 2008. This information has been included in all of the club's season ticket literature since.

"The club has earned widespread recognition for its season ticket pricing structure, having significantly reduced prices last summer and frozen them for 2013/14. Concessionary prices – including senior season tickets – are available in all other stands."
