Liverpool FC youngsters impress in Under-21 Premier League win over Arsenal ... - Liverpool Echo

A DOUBLE strike from Adam Morgan helped fire Liverpool FC to victory over Arsenal in an entertaining affair at Anfield.

The 18-year-old bagged two close range goals as the Reds defeated their London rivals 3-2 and moved up to second in the Elite Group of the Under-21 Premier League table as a result.

Victory keeps Liverpool in the hunt for a play-off spot with the top three sides in the standings progressing to the final stage of the competition and made amends for their Easter Monday defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Morgan opened and closed the scoring for Alex Inglethorpe's side but a talented Arsenal team twice pegged Liverpool back in a see-saw game on a bitterly cold evening.

Liverpool's U21s had a smattering of first-team experience within its ranks and Morgan, who has three senior appearances to his name, will grab the headlines with his two goals.

But the reports of Andre Wisdom's and Conor Coady's displays will also make for pleasant reading for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.

Jordan Ibe, who was included in the senior squad for the game at Southampton last month, created the first opportunity of the evening for the Reds as he played in the lively Morgan.

But the striker from Halewood saw his shot blocked by Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny who rushed from his line to narrow the angle.

Jonjo Shelvey sent 17-year-old Ibe racing down the left wing and from the wide-man's cross Morgan swept the ball in past Szczesny after 24 minutes.

The manner of the equaliser will have disappointed Inglethorpe as the Reds failed to deal with a free-kick pumped into their area and from the spoils, Chuba Akpom stabbed home.
