Wednesday 16th April 2013 11:15 Ashkan Dejagah: Among Fulham's star guys A10 absolutely free guess Fulham FanZoner Robert Hopping sings the praises of Ashkan Dejagah, the Iran winger who's enjoyed a superb introduction campaign at Craven Cottage. It quietly slipped underneath the radar the other day - the news that Ashkan Dejagah is going to be out for the rest of the season with a ruptured leg tendon following his collision with a promotion board in Fulham's 3-2 home victory over QPR. Without as popular outside SW6 as maybe people of the ilk of Dimitar Berbatov or Brede Hangeland, Dejagah is a very important player this season and is likely to be overlooked sorely by Fulham fans and the staff alike. Dejagah was signed by Martin Jol on move contract time last summer for an undisclosed fee from Wolfsburg, where he had spent the previous five months and had made more than 150 first staff performances. He won a Bundesliga name though there and became an essential person in the squad. He also represented Germany's Under-21s, (which can be no mean task) but decided rather to represent Iran at full global level, where he scored both aims in February 2012 against Qatar in a 2-2 attract a World Cup qualifier. As the aforementioned Berbatov has rightly taken lots of plaudits in 2013 as a result of his 13 goals and common link-up play, Dejagah has been steadily setting up decent game after decent game. He's challenging together with his feet and is not afraid to go past them and run at the resistance. Incorporating well with full-back Sascha Riether down the right flank (while they also did for Wolfsburg), Dejagah has passed and jinked his way past is always a decent outlet and several a League midfield if the protection is under pressure. Dejagah has yet to join up an objective for Fulham and here is the only blot against an impressive first season in English football. Yet with one support, 18 'key' moves and an 81% move completion rate, next period promises much. He's created 24 first-team appearances and it's a credit to his tasks that Jol, when speaing frankly about Dejagah's damage, stated: "It is discouraging. When you come to England you have to cope with the Premier League and that's what he did... we needed his pace and his power on the ball. He was man-of-the-match several times." A thought is going to Dejagah, as it pertains to choosing the Fulham player of the year. Berbatov has clearly been sublime on events and Mark Schwarzer has been his brilliant and game-saving self, but Dejagah offers something a little different. His constantly fascinating and attack-minded performances have endeared him to any or all at Craven Cottage and the club may well be more than happy to cheer him on come the beginning of next time.
