01/04/2013 15:23, Report by Adam Bostock Alexander BAttner's barnstorming display at Sunderland has been honored along with his first Man of the Match award as a Manchester United player. The Dutch left-back created only his third group appearance for the Reds as Sir Alex Ferguson's men won 1-0 to keep a lead over Manchester City. And as well as doing his normal defensive responsibilities well, he offered to the assault with a raid into the penalty box and a shot from length, both of which had to be dealt with by Black Cats goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. His performance was duly noted by United fans all over the world, and he received 49 per cent of the votes cast on ManUtd.com with runner-up Michael Carrick obtaining 35 per cent. BAttner's other defenders, particularly chief Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans, were also shortlisted for the Sunderland study. More -ABAttner: No let-up in the group
